….it’s no secret I’m a huge fan of Erlend Oye. His work in the Kings of Convenience is great in a slightly fey Smiths kind of way and most people have heard his guest vocalist spot in that Röyksopp song Remind Me from the Geico caveman commerical in the aiport but when he started hitting the DJ scene he really caught my eye. His latest work under the name the Whitest Boy Alive is just the best - funky & dancey but still very live oriented with rock instruments. I like that he resists the temptation to load a bunch of synths and drum machines on a track just because he is doing that genre of music. Anyway, here is brief sampling of some of his work.
Fireworks by The Whitest Boy Alive - The first clip is from a live show in Mexico. I guess people love him there - or at least they gathered up all his fans to see him in that club because the crowd seems thrilled to be there. The whole performance was caught by that TV crew so check out their youtube page to see the rest of the show.
Golden Cage by The Whitest Boy Alive - the video was actually done by one of the animators for the Simpsons. He also helped design his last album cover.
I’d Rather Dance With You by the Kings of Convenience
Was he the inspiration for Napoleon Dynamite’s brother Kip?
I sure hope so - if not he must have been part of the inspiration for Napoleon himself.
