Bobby Hebb, James Brown, Jamiroquai

Bobby Hebb is an underrated R&B songwriter from back in the day. By far his most popular song was Sunny. I like his original version but watch how James Brown owns the cover. Just for grins I threw in a short Jamiroquai version to show what a bad ass Jools Holland is.

Ya, I was thinking about getting into making mixtapes again. I used to do that on a weekly basis. I started making hip hop mix tapes for friends in junior high with the songs I had recorded from 97.9 “the box” in Houston which I could only catch on clear nights(usually after major storms) and with my radio antenna being my room partially covered in tin foil and a 4 ft antenna I had salvaged from a home demolition that I had rigged to the corner of my house.

When I got into playing music my pool of CDs grew and I started getting more elaborate and making volumed mix tapes in sets with themes. I think the most I ever did was a 12 CD set for some in laws I really bonded with(also audiophiles). Anyway, I got kind of burnt out on the mix tapes for a while because with each one I tried to go more long form and they became more of a chore than fun. I haven’t done one in two or three years now(except for a few weddings), I have been thinking about starting back up again…maybe a monthly mix tape would be the ticket.
